Press Release: National Accident Helpline supports brain injury charity

National Accident Helpline has chosen the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust (BIRT) as its company charity for the year 2010 – 2011.

BIRT helps people regain the skills lost as a result of brain injury, whether caused by road accident, assault, stroke or illness.

Sam Porteous, chief executive of National Accident Helpline, said: “In the past three years more than 500 people and their families have approached us seeking access to justice after brain injuries or accidents.

“No-one knows when such an accident might strike, which makes BIRT an invaluable source of information and support to patients and their families.”

National Accident Helpline is planning a series of charitable activities over the course of the year to raise money and awareness, including sporting challenges and staff events.

Lynn Turley, BIRT service director, said: “Severe brain injury can happen to anyone and can have far reaching effects, not just on the individual but on their family too.

“Support from National Accident Helpline will help the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust to continue providing vital services to those who suffer an acquired brain injury and their families.”
