Press Release: Holiday accidents spoil the fun for hundreds
Holidays can leave many people with memories they would rather forget, in the form of injuries and accidents.
In the past five years more than 3,000 people have contacted National Accident Helpline following holiday accidents, with injuries from hotels, beaches, funfairs and carnivals. Rotting doorframes and staircases, falls from balconies and defective safety bars on fairground rides have led to injuries including broken limbs and disc damage, punctured lungs, retinal damage and infected wounds.
Beth Powell, consumer director of National Accident Helpline, said: “The people who contact us expect to come back from holiday refreshed, not injured. Hotels and fairgrounds have a duty of care towards their visitors, which includes regular maintenance, safety precautions and supervision by trained staff.
“The holiday season is now underway, so hoteliers, fairground owners and others need to address their obligations, conduct safety checks and carry out repairs to ensure that holidays are a safe and enjoyable experience.”
