Industry News: Grandmother seeks compensation for ice slip

A grandmother is seeking personal injury compensation from her local authority after slipping on an ungritted road.

Marianne Jones, 55, from Walthamstow, was on her way to her doctor’s surgery on December 23 when she slipped on black ice and fell, hitting her head on the ground.

Mrs Jones, who was suffering from severe bronchitis at the time of the accident, was then taken to hospital and treated for concussion and a cut on the head.

She said she is still feeling the effects of the accident and has now taken steps to claim compensation from Waltham Forest Council.

She said: ‘I had already slipped about three times and decided to cross the road to see whether it was any better on the other side.

‘But when I stepped out I felt my feet go from under me and my head hit the road.

‘I felt giddy and scared, two men helped me to my feet and a lady called Maria waited with me for an ambulance.

‘The doctor said the symptoms can last a while, I still feel dizzy, I don't want to wash my hair because if I put my head down I feel giddy.’

Mrs Jones said she thought the road should have been gritted during the freezing weather as it was used by a large number of people.

‘It is very bad, lots of people use the roads near the doctor's surgery,’ she said.
