Press Release: ‘Hugging Boosts Injury Recovery’ – National Accident Helpline

16th January 2012

National Accident Helpline is linking in with National Hug Day(TM) to harness the power of hugs and help boost recovery for injury victims.

January 21st is National Hug Day, and Beth Powell, consumer director at National Accident Helpline, believes it’s the perfect opportunity to help injury victims recover from their injuries.

She said: “the best way to get back on your feet after an injury is to follow expert medical advice but at National Accident Helpline, we also think injury victims should do everything they can to speed up their recovery, and National Hug Day highlights the massive health benefits a hug can bring.”

Studies have shown that regular contact with other people increases the production of oxytocin, a feel good chemical otherwise known as the ‘love hormone’.

Oxytocin production in humans is known to improve a person’s mood and can potentially counteract the negative feelings associated with sustaining an injury.

Inventor of National Hug Day, Kevin Zaborney, agrees that hugging can help victims of injuries make a speedy recovery.

“National Hugging Day is a great day to focus upon how hugging positively improves the entire human body,” he said.

“Positive human touch, such as hugging, increases self-esteem and value within a person. Without that important touch, humans become more sickly and isolated from one another.”

He added: “For those with injury due to accidents, the touch of another hand does wonders for the person. We know that with a hug, the increase of one's mood can only be that much greater.”

Last year’s National Hug Day was celebrated across the world, with major events including hug-a-thons and hugging chains. Become part of this special day and give someone you know who has been injured, a hug and help them on their way to recovery.

National Accident Helpline is the leading marketing group for solicitors specialising in personal injury and is responsible for championing consumers’ rights to access justice.
