Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA)

The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) is the independent governing body of the Law Society, who monitor all solicitor firms that are registered to practice in the UK.

Checking whether the company you’re looking to handle your case is accredited by the SRA is easy. You can ask the firm for their SRA ID number (registration number) and enter it – or the firm’s name – on the Law Society website. This will also give you details about the firm as well as any accreditations they might have.

If your solicitor isn’t registered on the site, then they’re not qualified to practice law in the UK and you should look for another solicitor.

What else to look for in a solicitor

Knowing whether your solicitor is qualified to handle your claim should always be your first port of call before you let them take on your case. But there are a few other things you should think about to make the process as straight-forward as possible:

Check third party reviews

After reading through a solicitors’ website, you might still be unsure if you can trust them. One way to feel more confident is to check other people’s reviews of these firms on websites like Trustpilot or Feefo.

Choose personal injury specialists
