Busting the myths of personal injury claims
New research has highlighted a range of common myths that are skewing the nation's understanding of compensation and restricting access to it as a result.
A YouGov study, commissioned here at National Accident Helpline, uncovered a number of reasons why almost a third of people in Britain would be reluctant to make a claim for compensation after an accident that wasn't their fault - even though the overwhelming majority (85%) felt it would be fair for others to do so.

Myth: I'll have to go to court
Many people who get in touch with us are worried that claiming will mean they'll have to go to court, but in reality, more than 95% of our cases are settled without ever going near a courtroom.
In the rare case that a claimant does have to go to court, their specialist solicitor will be on hand to guide them through the process, so there's no need to worry.
Myth: Making a claim will cost too much
When thinking about making a claim, a lot of people worry that if their case isn't successful, then they'll still have to pay solicitor fees which they won't be able to afford.

Myth: I'll lose my job if I claim against my employer
A common worry about making a claim for an accident at work is that doing so could put the claimant's job at risk.
This is simply not true, as it is illegal for an employer to let someone go because of a claim.
There are strict rules and laws around dismissal and it's against the law for a claimant to be fired or treated any differently for making a claim.
If they were to be fired, this would be considered ‘unfair dismissal' and legal action could be taken against the employer.
Myth: We'll sell or share your details with other companies
Unfortunately, many other claims companies use unethical marketing practices and some fraudulent ones even pretend to be us. This includes cold calling, spam emails and texts, and buying and selling personal data. Thankfully, that's not us - never has been, never will be.
