Have you suffered a serious fracture injury?

Suffering a broken bone might sound like a common injury but we know that while many of us will experience a broken bone in our lives, they're not always straightforward and nearly always have an impact on our physical independence and our mental wellbeing.

Where a broken bone injury has been complicated or resulted in a lasting impact on your life, then you've suffered a serious or life-changing injury.

For example, as a result of your injury, you may have needed:

  • Ongoing or repeated medical treatment, or may have spent long periods of time in hospital
  • Lengthy periods of time off work
  • Care from a friend or family member, or help getting around including to and from hospital

If that's the case, then compensation can help repay your loved one for their care and mileage and help you recover the expenses your injury has caused.

Compensation can also help you rebuild your future as best as possible. This includes covering the impact your injury has had on:

  • Any spare time activities, such as playing a sport or learning a skill
  • Any future loss of earnings, for example if you're unable to work or your future working life has been affected
  • Any impact on your future progression at work or within education
  • Any future care needed or adaptations to your home life

We know that you'd rather not have suffered a broken bone, and while we know that compensation cannot make up for your pain, it can help you be better prepared for your future.

So if you've suffered a fracture and think you meet any of the criteria above then please get in contact on  to find out how we can help you. Our calls are free and confidential.

What's the difference between a fracture and broken bone?

So if you've been diagnosed with a fracture, it doesn't mean that you've suffered a less severe injury, as is the common misconception, because fractures, like broken bones, can range from a single fracture to an open break (compound fracture) or crush (comminuted fracture).

It's useful to know what type of fracture you've suffered when you contact us, but don't worry if you don't have this information. You can simply tell us where your injury is, for example, shoulder, wrist or thigh.

If your doctor failed to diagnose your fracture, or they've misdiagnosed it, it can sometimes take longer to recover. We understand that you may be keen to explore your options if this is the case. You can find out more about the work we've done with missed fracture claims here.

Below are examples of accidents that can result in broken bones. Often with the types of injuries listed below, somebody else can be at fault, either by accident or through their negligence or inaction.

Your accident type may not be listed below, and if that's the case, please don't worry. As long as your injury was caused by somebody else, it's likely we can help you. We can talk through your experience now on  .

Broken bones and fractures at work

Suffering an accident at work can be an isolating experience. We know that people often feel like their “on the job” experience should have protected them from an injury and therefore, they might not have a claim, but quite simply experience isn't enough.

Your employer is responsible for your safety at work as outlined by the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, and enforced by the Health and Safety Executive. For you to have suffered a broken bone in your workplace could mean they have failed to uphold their responsibilities to you.

This could mean that your employer:

  • Did not provide you with the correct training, or provided no training at all
  • Did not give the right safety equipment for your role
  • Failed to maintain a safe workplace, including regularly inspecting workplace machinery or keeping the floor safe from hazards

You may be worrying that making a claim will affect your career or your employer, but you have nothing to be anxious about. If you'd like to read more information about how claiming may affect your career, or how it will affect your employer, then you can find more information here  or visit our accidents at work page.

Alternatively, we're here to listen and advise so you can call us for free on  for more information.

Broken bones and fractures from road traffic accidents

We know that anybody who suffers a road traffic accident can be left traumatised and can then feel anxious about being a passenger, cyclist or driver. Road accidents have the ability to make us feel nervous in what were once comfortable situations, as well as causing serious physical injury.

If your accident was caused by somebody else, then you could claim compensation for your fracture and the financial stress your accident has caused you.

Some examples of where an accident may be somebody else's fault are:

  • Where you as a cyclist or motorcyclist, have been knocked off your bike in an accident where the other driver was careless or distracted
  • Where you've been in a car accident as a passenger or driver, where the other driver was driving recklessly, cut across your path or collided with you in any capacity, causing you an injury

We also hear of accidents that happen involving pedestrians. If you've suffered a pedestrian accident, where a motor vehicle or cyclist has struck you and caused you a fracture, then we're sorry to hear of your experience. Nobody expects to be hit by a moving vehicle while they're walking on a path or crossing a road. We know that the resulting injuries can have a serious impact, and that's why we're here to help you recover.

Whatever your road accident, if you think it was caused by somebody else, then please contact us and find out how we can help you.

Broken bones and fractures from a slip, trip or fall

There are plenty of misconceptions around accidents caused by slips, trips or falls. For instance, it's common to think that a simple trip cannot cause a serious injury, but this isn't true. Slips, trips and falls can cause you serious harm, including broken bones.

If you've suffered a slip or fall in a public place, please don't feel embarrassed or uneasy about claiming. You shouldn't have been put at risk in the first place; every shop owner, supermarket or public place has an obligation to you to keep pathways and aisles free from hazards. Or, at the very least, to ensure that slip or trip hazards are obvious and avoidable.

If you're still unsure whether you want to claim for your slip, trip or fall, you're welcome to contact us for advice. Our calls are free and confidential and we won't pressure you to make a claim.

We're here to help people like you make a genuine claim for compensation. That means we only help people who, like you, have suffered an injury from an accident that wasn't their fault.

Over our years_since year history, we've worked hard to make the process of starting your claim as straightforward as possible. As part of this, we created our industry-leading compensation calculator.
