What if the driver has no insurance?
All drivers are required by law to have insurance to cover the cost of compensation claims or damages to other road users. We know that sometimes reckless drivers don’t have insurance. In this situation it would be unfair for you to be left out of pocket as a result of your injury.
So, if the driver who was at fault for your accident does not have insurance, you are still able to make a claim, as in these circumstances your compensation will be paid by the Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB).
All UK motor insurance companies pay into the MIB’s fund each year to cover the cost of road accidents where a driver is uninsured or can’t be traced.

The law on seatbelts
It’s extremely important for your own safety that you wear a seatbelt when travelling in a car.
The law states that every passenger over the age of 14 must wear an adult seatbelt if it is available and that children under the age of 14 must either wear a child restraint or a normal seatbelt.
We advise that you always wear a seatbelt to reduce the chances of injury. If you’ve been injured as a passenger in a road accident and you weren’t wearing one, then you may still be able to make a compensation claim, but it’s likely that you will receive less.
